Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026 — factual corrections made to match how the site actually works; still a concept draft, for full legal review before launch.

What we collect

• Profile details — your first name and email address, given when you sign up at the start of the quiz. If you tick the optional box, we also record that you agreed to receive updates, and when.
• Quiz answers — the postcode you need to get to, commute preferences, budget, property type, and the other questions you answer, used to generate your matches. These are linked to your profile.
• Shortlist — areas you choose to save, stored in your browser so you can return to them.
• Reviews — if you submit a review, the name, optional location, rating, and text you provide. Reviews are checked by a person before anything is shown publicly.
• Technical data — like any website, our hosting and database providers may log standard technical information such as IP addresses and browser type when you visit.
• Basic usage data — only if you opt in via the cookie banner. See our Cookie Policy.

What we use it for

To set up and run your profile and contact you about it or the service; to generate your matches; to remember your shortlist; and to publish reviews you choose to submit. Only if you tick the optional box, to send you occasional updates about Where To Live — you can unsubscribe at any time, and ticking it is never a condition of using the site. Only with your cookie consent, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with property agents, developers, or any third party for marketing purposes.

Our legal bases under UK GDPR: running your profile and the service is necessary to provide what you signed up for; marketing updates and analytics rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time; and we rely on legitimate interests to keep the site secure and improve how matching works.

Third-party processors

We use a small number of services to run the site. Each only receives what it needs:

• Supabase — our database and backend; stores your profile, quiz answers and any reviews you submit.
• Netlify — hosts the website.
• postcodes.io — receives the postcode you enter, to convert it into map coordinates.
• TravelTime — receives those coordinates and your commute settings, to work out real journey times.
• An AI provider (Anthropic) — receives the facts about each matched area, plus your commute, budget and priority settings, to write the short "why this match" text. It does not receive your postcode or any contact details, and the text it returns is checked against the sourced data before it is shown.
• Google Fonts — your browser loads our typeface directly from Google.
• OpenStreetMap and unpkg — only if you open the map view: your browser loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap and the mapping library from unpkg.com.

These services can see technical information such as your IP address when your browser contacts them, and are subject to their own privacy policies. Links to Zoopla open in a new tab and are governed by Zoopla's own policy. If we later start sending emails, we will use an email service provider and add it to this list first.

Our one rule on rankings

No individual or business can pay us to influence your results. Your data is used only to match you against the sourced datasets described in our methodology — never to sell your details onward.

How long we keep it

Your profile details are kept until you ask us to delete your profile. If you do, we delete your name and email and your quiz answers are kept only without any link to you, so we can improve how matching works. If you withdraw marketing consent we keep only what's needed to make sure we don't contact you again. Your browser also remembers that you've signed up (your profile reference and first name, not your email) so you aren't asked twice, plus your shortlist; both live in your browser's local storage and you can clear them at any time. Reviews are kept until you ask for yours to be removed.

Your rights
